Anti-bacterial soaps - prevents or promotes infections?

Photograph taken from Google Images
If you do not eat antibiotic daily to prevent infection, then why do you use anti-bacterial soap daily on your skin ?

The reality is regular use of anti-bacterial soaps might not only increase the chance of getting infected from superbug but also contributing to extinction of aquatic life. FDA is re-considering the safety of anti-bacterial like triclosan and Centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) also refutes regular use of anti-bacterial soap at home.

Here is comprehensive list of reasons as to why regular use of anti-bacterial soap or hand wash is NOT recommended:

A, B, C of Daily skin care - create your own personalized skincare regime with us.

Smooth, even toned, radiant and flawless skin is what we dream about, but we all are not fortunate enough to have it. I truly believe that with little effort we can nurture our skin, and move towards having radiant skin.

Yes, it all starts from small steps like using a face wash that removes excess oils in oily skin or moisturizer that replenishes natural moisturizing factor of dry skin and daily use of sunscreen to ward off those fine lines and dark spots.  With unfathomable list of skincare products available and innumerable claims that we are bombarded with everyday, leads to even more confusion and people are unable to settle in a routine of daily skincare as they experiment with many products.

Based on my experience, I would recommend simple steps to take care of your skin. Its includes some daily skin care that would not take more than 10 minutes of your entire day and weekly care which would take about 15  minutes from your entire weekend.
  • Daily Care: It includes three simple things face wash, day cream with sun protection(read SPF) and night cream for wrinkles and dark spots.
  • Weekly care: which I term as two-step home facial includes scrubbing and face pack.

These five steps will remain same in all skin types but the type of face wash, creams, face pack etc will vary as per your skin type, to know yours Sign up.

Listen to what your skin says!

Yes! Your skin tells you what it needs but in subtle way; all you have to do is keep your mind open to these little messages. The messages are simple and the solutions are simpler and the results are fabulous.

  • If your skin feels dry and tight, it is telling you to apply moisturiser.
  • If your skin gets oily and greasy, its time for wiping oil off or face wash.
  • If your skin is getting tanned or sunburned, it is telling you to protect it from sun.
  • If your skin is burning, stinging or red, it is begging leave me alone.

Skin type- is more than just dry or oily!

Skin type is always thought of as either oily or dry but we determine skin typing on the basis of three factors:
  1. Oil secretion- oily or dry or combination
  2. Pigmentation- pigmented or non pigmented
  3. Sensitivity- sensitive or resistant

·

  • But why should I know my skin type?
  • Is tissue paper helpful in determining skin type?
  • What is significance of the three factors on the basis of which skin typing is done?

Facials- Do they really help?

Yes they do! By witnessing a few trials, we have noticed a glow on people’s face after a facial, but sadly the effect doesn’t last for more than a week. Our skin needs on going care rather than once a month facial. A facial every weekend is too heavy on the pocket. A lot of dermatologists believe that facials are a waste of time and money. So let’s understand all the steps of a facial one by one, throwing light on the pros and cons of each step.
